Capturing the Emotion of Nature My husband and I are practicing to be “empty nesters.” That is to say, our youngest child will be going to college next year and we are finding ourselves with a lot of time on our hands as we transition out of our child rearing years.
We like to stay busy and have been trying to find hobbies that we can share. Recently, my husband has become interested in nature photography. Fortunately, we live near the one-of-a-kind National Center for Nature Photography and the wonderful Toledo Metroparks and were able to take some classes from renowned nature photographers and naturalists.
To be honest, photographing people is really more my thing. I like to capture the emotion of faces. Faces tell stories. Capturing those stories with a camera is a way of preserving them visually.
I really didn’t think that I could capture that kind of emotion by photographing flora and fauna. I attended the classes to learn some new skills and spend some time with my spouse.
Boy was I in for a surprise! Nature is full of emotion.
Photography is a great way to preserve emotional stories. I made the mistake of thinking that emotion had to come from humans. It doesn’t. Nature provides an endless supply of its own stories just waiting to be told.
