Maumee Bay State Park is located right on the shore of Lake Erie. There is a lot of nature to see and appreciate here. There are also many other fun things to do year-round.
There are 10 miles of trails at Maumee bay. One of the trails, the Mouse Trail is 3-mile trail that winds through meadows and woodlands
There are also several miles of paved trails for bicycling and cross-country skiing.
My favorite trail is the is the 2-mile boardwalk. The elevated boardwalk goes through swamp and marsh wetlands. Its normally very difficult to see and appreciate swampy areas and the wildlife within them. The boardwalk makes it easy (and dry). There are interpretive signs, an observation blind and tower, and wheelchair accessible loop.
Adjacent to the boardwalk trail is the Trautman Nature Center. Staffed by a year-round naturalist, it is very well done and informative.
Maumee Bay is relatively new, opening in 1991. Consequently the lodge and cabins are very nice and highly recommended.
The cabins are more like small homes. There are various sizes available.
