The Northwest Ohio horseback riding trails are wonderful. The Oak Openings Horse Trail is the best anywhere. What a great way to be outside enjoying nature.
There are nearly 20 miles of horse trails in the 3600+ acre Oak Openings Preserve. The trails wind through the entire park and part of Maumee State Forestt.
There are facilities at the Horse Rider Center on Jeffers Rd. It is located about 1/4 mile north of State Rt. 64.
There is plenty of parking space available for trailers. There are also picnic tables with shelter, hitching posts, restrooms and running water.
The trails begin at the Horse Rider Center and head off in to the preserve. You can also get to Maumee State Forest as well as Harry Hughes Horse Center from the Horse Rider Center.
Maps are posted at certain locations on the trail so you don't get lost. Trails are well marked.

The sights are great. The trails wind through one of the rarest ecosystems on the planet, the Oak Openings Region. There is rarely a time when you won't see deer or one of the many other animals in the park.
You don't have to be a nature lover to love this place for trail riding!
