Eastern Black Swallowtail (female)

This morning as I took my puppy out for her morning potty, I noticed her sniffing low at something then began to slowly back away from the area.

She kept looking at the section but remained a foot or so away. This drew my attention and I went to check it out, thinking it might be a garden snake. To my delight, I witness a beautiful butterfly.

I had to run inside to grab my kids so they can witness the beauty. Upon returning, each took turns holding the butterfly, bringing it to the front of the house while I grabbed the flower pot my son gave me for Mother's Day.

Now it sits out front and my daughter gave a slice of apple to see if it will like it. I took some pictures and now we have a wonderful memory and experience stored.

I hope you enjoy the picture. This site was very helpful on telling us what we found. Thanks for such a great site!
